Initial Design Team
20's Male

As a member of the initial design team, my job is to create an overall concept for the ship based on the requests of the shipowner, while ensuring the compliance with related regulations. These making the General arrangement, Linesplan, and technical calculations such as stability, capacity plan, gross tonnage, etc. When the ship is completed, we also witness the inclining test. We design various types of ships, such as general cargo ships, container ships, tanker ships, etc., which require different design considerations.
As a person who love design and calculations, this job is very interesting because I can always learn new things and it requires me to keep thinking on how to design the best ship.

Although I studied ship design at university, there is still much I don't know about actual ships. Fortunately, my superiors and seniors guide me well, so I can feel at ease. As the world changes, so will the ship, so I think it's important to keep learning. I will continue to make efforts in the future.

Hull Structure Design Team
30's Female

The Hull Structure Design team I belong to determines the placement of the structural members that make up the hull and creates hull structural drawings. When drawing a structural drawing, there are rules for how to draw it, but there is no correct answer when it comes to determining the structure.
That part is difficult, but it's also interesting because you get to think and decide for yourself. It's a great feeling to be able to build a ship with a structure that you designed yourself.

There are many different types of ships, such as cargo ships and tankers, and even if the ship is of the same type, the specifications differ each time, so there are always new discoveries.
I would like to be able to respond to various situations by working on various ships and gaining experience.

Ship Outfitting Design Team
30's Male

Our company was my first company after entering the workforce.
At first, I was assigned to the Initial Design team, but after I got used to the job, I was assigned to the Ship Outfitting Design team.

Outfitting is the part in which sailors are most involved.
We place and design the equipment with consideration for making it more efficient and easier for sailors to use.
At the stage of drawing the drawings, my individual taste comes out more, and no two drawings are done in the same way, so it is interesting.
There are many other detailed fittings and things to think about.
Although I may fail sometimes, I will continue to learn and take on challenges.

Pipe Outfitting Design Team
30's Male

I am working at Piping Design Team.
Pipe Outfitting is playing very important role in moving the ship.
From cover to protect the cargo, mooring equipment to connect the ship to the shore using rope, equipment for dropping the anchor, even toilets and sinks for people living on the ships, everything are designed to be connected by pipes.

Even to connect point A to B, the route taken, appearance, etc.
must be well-considered in order to make the optimum pipe arrangement for each ship, so experiences and knowledges are needed.
Therefore I think it is important to learn various things every day to improve it.

Machinery Design Team
30's Male

As an engine team, we are responsible for the arrangement of equipment and tanks in the engine room, such as the main engine and auxiliary equipment, piping system diagrams, piping installation diagrams in the engine room, pipe component diagrams, and the design of pipe supports.

The engine room contains a lot of equipment that is important to move the ship.
Also, there are many difficult parts where you have to think about the layout and piping for the proper operation of the equipment, but I think this is a department that gives me a sense of accomplishment and is rewarding. I am also learning every day.
